What are some ways to control selectivity in a chiral separation?

There are two ways to effect a chiral separation. It can be effected by  using a chiral discriminator or selector. The chiral selector can be added as an additive to the mobile phase or a column with chiral selector can be used for the chiral recognition. Chiral columns have most success & reproducibility in Chiral separation. Following are the five different class of chiral stationary phase:

  • Polysaccharide
  • Pirkle
  • Ligand exchange
  • Cavity
  • Protein

Among these, Polysaccharide stationary phases have the highest success in chiral separation. In chiral chromarography, the success of a chiral column is represented in terms of hit rate and polysaccharide column(Lux) has the highest hit rate.
