Do we need ZB-guardian/ Z-guard for split injection?

Split injection is a fast injection mode and the amount of solvent entering the column is less. In general, it does not need ZB-guardian/ Z-guard to act as a retention gap column. However, if there is a solvent mismatch (nonpolar solvent for a polar column), the solvent would dewet the analytical column. Thus the flooded zone of dewetted solvent and analyte would be few meters length.  In such case, using a guard column will help to overcome the dewetting and by focusing only the analyte to the column head.

The  ZB-guardian/ Z-guard can act as a guard column to protect the analytical column from nonvolatile impurities. When a ZB-guardian/ Z-guard is used, it prevents the excessive trimming of the analytical column.
