Can I use packed columns for GC/MS analysis?

Packed columns can be used for GC MS analysis. However there are two things that has to be considered.

• The bleed in a packed column would be high compared to a wall coated capillary column. So, the ion source can get easily contaminated due to bleed.
• The carrier gas flow rate would be very high (30-50ml/min) and the vacuum pump will not be able to pump such high flow of carrier gas. So, an interface like Jet separator should be used .
