The glass jet separator is a H shaped glass tube with primary and secondary capillary orifice. A primary capillary oriface sends the carrier gas and the analytes into the glass chamber. Most of the carrier gas from the high flow GC is pumped away by using a separate vacuum pump. The analyte molecules are sent through a secondary capillary chamber with small flow rate which is further connected to the MS ion source. The temperature, flow , vacuum, surface activity of the glass jet separator needs to be optimized to get effective transfer of the analytes.
