How do you extract polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from oil?

You use the method outlined below for the extraction of PAHs from oil. Majority of the oil matrix will be eliminated during the wash step.

Pretreatment: 
Dilute 1 g of oil with 15 mL of hexane. Homogenize.

To a 1 g Strata EPH cartridge,

Condition with 6 mL dichloromethane, then 6 mL hexane

Load pretreated sample dissolved in hexane

Wash with 6 mL of 10% dichloromethane in hexane
Dry cartridge for 10 min on full vacuum

Elute with 2x 6 mL dichloromethane

Dry down and reconstitute in appropriate solvent for analysis

Please also collect and analyze load and wash fractions to monitor analyte movement throughout the method. The method can be further optimized based on your initial results.
