What is graphitized carbon black (GCB)?

Graphitized carbon black (GCB) is an adsorbent that retains compounds by only hydrophobic interactions.  It is commonly used to trap hydrocarbons from aqueous matrices as polar solvents such as water or alcohols will not interact with GCB.
