How do you pretreat meat samples?

Sample pretreatment:

Add 1 mL of 1% formic acid aqueous solution to 1 g of meat sample.  Shake for 1 min and let stand for 5 minutes.  Add 1 mL of methanol to sample mixture.  Place on shaker for 15 minutes.  Centrifuge.  Transfer supernatant to a culture tube and dilute with 3 mL of deionized water.  Sample should be acidic at this point.  Adjust pH to 6 using NH4OH.  This sample mixture will then undergo SPE.
