SPE Troubleshooting Series: IV. Slow Flow

Possible causes:

a). Sample pretreatment

Samples of different nature require different pretreatment prior to SPE.  Viscous samples require a dilution.  Particle-laden samples require filtering

b). Incorrect sorbent selection

A larger particle size sorbent may be more appropriate for viscous samples

c). Vacuum

Increase vacuum force to see if there is improvement.  For well plates, use a sealing mat to cover unused wells.

d). Sample precipitation

Some components of your sample may precipitate and create clogging inside the cartridge
