Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) is a high throughput, automated technique for extractions from semisolid and solid samples using common solvents under high pressure and temperature. It is typically used for environmental samples and there are reports of ASE used for plant, animal & human tissues.
The extraction is carried out under high pressure (1450-2175 psi) to keep the solvent in its liquid state at high temperature (50-200 °C), which is required to accelerate the extraction kinetics. Solvents used are typically organic. Pressurized hot water can also be used. This technique is suitable for extraction of thermally stable organic compounds.
