Which Lux phase should I use?

If you are unsure of which Lux phase will give the best selectivity, we recommend our Lux method development kit.  However,the following guidelines can be used to decide on which Lux column will give the highest chance of success.

The proximity of aromatic groups on the compound of interest to its chiral center will influence how it behaves on a CSP.

If the compound of interest has electron accepting aromatic groups (i.e. aromatic groups with electron withdrawing substituents), then Lux Cellulose I might be the viable option. This is because Lux Cell I has electron donating aromatic rings and pi orbital stacking interactions will be stronger. 

Conversely if the compound of interest has electron donating aromatic groups then the Lux Cellulose II or Amylose II may be better options. 

Finally, if the chiral analyte has large substituents on it’s chiral center then the Amylose II may be a better option because the ordered nature of the amylose polymer will give better shape selectivity.
