Matrix solid phase dispersion directly blends solid or liquid samples with SPE sorbents to promote analyte adsorption.
For solid samples, blending is done by grinding the sample with SPE sorbent using a mortar and pestle. This also homogenizes the solid sample. Liquid or viscous samples can simply be blended by stirring or vortexing and this mixture is then filtered.
The analyte-sorbent blend is then packed into a tube for elution. Elution is performed using a solvent that provides good solubility for the analytes of interest. A wash step can also be incorporated if necessary, to remove undesired interferences.
